Pre-Screening

If you are taking medication for Alzheimer's, it needs to have been the same dose and type for the last 3 months.

This is about whether your diabetes treatment includes taking insulin.

This includes health problems such as stroke, brain injury, Huntington's Disease etc

These are conditions that affect your mood, thinking, and behaviour.

You will need to not have any caffeine (like coffee, tea, or some soft drinks) for 4 hours before you come in for certain tests during the study.

You will need to not smoke or use any tobacco products for 2 hours before you come in for certain tests during the study.

List ALL the medications you are currently taking on a regular or as needed basis (including prescription, over-the-counter and natural i.e. St Johns Wort) - where possible include disage and frequency

This trial is testing a new potential treatment for people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. We want to see if it's safe, tolerable, and can help with memory and cognition problems.

By joining this trial you may help improve our understanding of Alzheimer’s Disease to benefit patients in the future. There is also potential for improvement in cognitive Alzheimer’s Disease symptoms while taking the new potential treatment. Things like your travel to the site will be paid for, and we can even organise this for you. You'll also have access to close medical monitoring and a team that really care.

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects the brain. It leads to cognitive decline, memory loss, and emotional changes, impacting on the indidivdual as well as family and caregivers.

Have cognition and memory issues due to Alzheimer's disease

This trial is all about finding out if a daily pill  can help people with Alzheimer's disease. We want to see if this pill is safe, if people can tolerate it well, and if it actually works to improve the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

You will be part of this trial for up to 50 weeks. During the treatment period (36 weeks), you'll take a pill every morning. It can be taken with or without food, whatever works best for you. You will either get the trial pill or a placebo, which is a pill that looks like the trial treatment but doesn't have any medicine in it. You will be closely monitored, with 11 visits during the trial period (which includes a couple of phone calls).

Mild to Moderate Alzheimer's Dementia

Xanamem is a brain-penetrant and highly selective small molecule inhibitor of the enzyme 11 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1), which catalyzes the reduction of inert cortisone inside cells to the active glucocorticoid hormone cortisol. It has shown efficacy in improving cognition in previous trials and is being tested for its potential to treat cognitive symptoms in patients with mild or moderate dementia due to Alzheimer's Disease (AD).

This clinical trial will assess the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of Xanamem in treating cognitive symptoms in patients with mild or moderate dementia due to AD.
